Clinical Pharmacology
Etoricoxib is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor that reduces prostaglandin synthesis and provides analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
Indications & Usage
Depending on the prescribed indication, etoricoxib may be used for:
- Osteoarthritis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Ankylosing spondylitis
- Acute musculoskeletal pain
- Acute gouty arthritis
- Other approved acute or chronic musculoskeletal pain conditions
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to etoricoxib or NSAIDs
- Active peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding
- Severe hepatic or renal impairment
- Established ischemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease or cerebrovascular disease
- Uncontrolled hypertension
Warnings & Precautions
Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest appropriate duration. Monitor blood pressure and cardiovascular, renal and gastrointestinal risk.
Drug Interactions
Caution with anticoagulants, ACE inhibitors/ARBs, diuretics, lithium, methotrexate and other NSAIDs.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Contraindicated in the later stages of pregnancy. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only under medical advice.

Adverse Reactions
Dyspepsia, abdominal pain, edema, hypertension, headache and dizziness. Serious cardiovascular, renal or gastrointestinal events may occur.
